If we want to do well in our Buddhist practice, we need to first make sure our karmic enemies are settled down. Otherwise, if they come to bother us, how will we carry on with our practice? Therefore, we need to constantly dedicate the merits of our practice to all of our karmic enemies, so that they will be settled. Then we will be able to do well in our practice.
