There is a saying that “all diseases enter through the mouth and all disasters come out of the mouth.” Not only should we not harm sentient beings, but we also must not consume anything that is harmful to our body such as tobacco and alcohol.

A daughter-in-law should tell herself, “My mother-in-law raised my husband and entrusted him to me. I should be thankful and respect her as if she were my own mother.” Similarly, a mother-in-law should also recognize, “My daughter-in-law’s parents put a lot of effort into raising and educating her. Now that she is part of my family and helps to look after my son, I must be grateful to her and love her as my own daughter.” Mutual gratitude is the key to maintaining a harmonious relationship.

Instead, you should admit your faults and thank them for pointing it out. If you admit your mistakes, others will see that you can accept criticism and may even offer you advice.

Buddhism talks about the Law of Cause and Effect, which spans the Three Periods (past, present, and future). Suppose in your previous lives you frequently heard the Dharma; practiced diligently; planted deep virtuous roots; and cultivated a lot of blessings. Even if you have not encountered the Dharma in this life, or were born in a place without Buddhism, due to your profound virtuous roots, you will naturally not be swayed into committing an evil action despite coming across negative conditions.

What are the Six Paramitas? They are: giving, observance of precepts, forbearance, diligence, meditative concentration, and wisdom. These six meritorious virtues can liberate sentient beings from the Six Hindrances: greed, violation of precepts, anger, laziness, scattered thoughts, and ignorance.
We must use the Six Paramitas to eradicate the Six Hindrances.
