Do what you can to build Lingyen
Do not say, “The economy is not doing well right now; it is not easy to make a living. How could we have money to build a temple?” Building a temple certainly requires money. However, all kinds of praise and other spiritual support are also needed. Simply contribute according to your abilities; no one is asking you to do anything so difficult that it seems impossible. The Buddha taught us to work to the best of our abilities!

There are eighty-four thousand afflictions in the secular world, but the Buddha has eighty-four thousand Dharma methods. The method of chanting Amitabha Buddha’s name contains within it all other Dharma methods. Practicing this method will allow us to completely refrain from bad deeds and cultivate all that is good.

To understand the Law of Cause and Effect, we must learn the Buddhadharma, which teaches us that the Law of Cause and Effect applies across the Three Periods of Time (past, present, and future). The Buddhadharma clearly points out where we come from, when we are born, what we should do now, and where we will go after we die. From this, the Buddhadharma gives us the true knowledge.

Those with virtuous roots can accept the teaching even though they do not understand it. They believe that the Buddha speaks the truth and only the truth. They believe in and practice what the Buddha teaches. Even though they are still unclear about some principles, they practice them with confidence and conviction. Between these two types of people, we should learn from the ones with virtuous roots and follow their example.

“The Compassionate Mind of the Buddha.” address the concept of True Nature. True Nature is the core of the Buddhadharma, which is the equivalent to what secular beings refer to as our mind. The mind that the Buddhadharma refers to is our pure mind, which existed even before the presence of heaven and earth. It has no birth or death and is true and eternal.
