Do you know that you are crueler than tigers and poisonous snakes?
You eat one fish today and one shrimp tomorrow; over time, how many lives will you have eaten in your lifetime? I hope you will not be like poisonous snakes and tigers; otherwise, you will live a short life and suffer retributions in the hells with mountains made of knives and oceans full of fire!

The real way to liberate living beings is to be vegetarian
Even though it is good to liberate living beings, it is even better to be vegetarian. To be vegetarian is to be truly compassionate, and truly liberate lives. If you liberate living beings but continue eating meat, then how many lives can you actually liberate in your lifetime? You could not liberate as many as you eat!

The Buddhadharma contains excellent teachings of the truth. When we practice Buddhism, we should read Buddhist sutras with the energy that we use when reading novels. We should use the time we watch television to chant the Buddha’s name and prostrate to the Buddha. Cultivating that way is sufficient, so how can you still say that you don’t have time to cultivate?
