It is stated in the Earth Store Sutra, “The power of karma is extremely great. It rivals Mount Sumeru in its heights. It surpasses the great oceans in its depths. It obstructs the path leading to sagehood.” If we are completely pure in our cultivation of virtuous karma, it can also obstruct our negative karma, so that we are unsuccessful in unwholesome endeavors. Even if bad people come to find us, we will not engage in anything unwholesome.

A single cause requires the help of many conditions in order for its effects to come to fruition. When the time comes and all the necessary conditions are present, there will certainly be an effect. What kind of effect? It depends entirely on the wholesome and unwholesome causes that we create, which yield the effects of suffering and happiness. If the time has yet to come, there might not be an effect.

As long as we chant the Buddha’s name, there will be a lotus flower for us in the Water of Eight Meritorious Virtues. At the time of our death, Amitabha Buddha, Guan Yin Bodhisattva, and Mahastamaprapta Bodhisattva will come with our lotus flower and guide us to the Pure Land.
Everything is impermanent, including karmic hindrances. They will not last forever and can change at any moment. They arise due to causes and conditions, and will cease due to causes and conditions as well. How can we eliminate our karmic obstacles? The way to do so is to constantly be mindful of Amitabha Buddha. By sincerely chanting the name of Amitabha Buddha just once, we can eliminate our most severe offenses that have kept us in the cycle of birth and death for over eight billion kalpas.
