Do what you can to build Lingyen
Do not say, “The economy is not doing well right now; it is not easy to make a living. How could we have money to build a temple?” Building a temple certainly requires money. However, all kinds of praise and other spiritual support are also needed. Simply contribute according to your abilities; no one is asking you to do anything so difficult that it seems impossible. The Buddha taught us to work to the best of our abilities!

If you desire a compassionate and virtuous appearance, you must bring forth your great compassion. If you are not serene and cannot tolerate any grievances against you, not only will the development of your virtuous conduct stagnate, but your appearance will also lack compassion and amiability. Then, how will you be able to strike a chord with others?

There are eighty-four thousand afflictions in the secular world, but the Buddha has eighty-four thousand Dharma methods. Those with virtuous roots can accept the teaching even though they do not understand it. They believe that the Buddha speaks the truth and only the truth. They believe in and practice what the Buddha teaches. Even though they are still unclear about some principles, they practice them with confidence and conviction. Between these two types of people, we should learn from the ones with virtuous roots and follow their example.

“The Compassionate Mind of the Buddha.” address the concept of True Nature. True Nature is the core of the Buddhadharma, which is the equivalent to what secular beings refer to as our mind. The mind that the Buddhadharma refers to is our pure mind, which existed even before the presence of heaven and earth. It has no birth or death and is true and eternal.
