The Avatamsaka Syllabary begins with the syllable ‘a’. By adding different syllables after it, we give it different meanings. All phenomena originate from this one syllable ‘a’, and ultimately return to the syllable ‘a’. The syllable ‘a’ gives rise to all of the myriad phenomena. It represents our essential nature, our original pure mind.

Different arrangements produce changes, but they do not change its essence. All phenomena arise interdependently from the syllable ‘a’, and finally return to the syllable ‘a’.

Generally speaking, have you noticed that people will not fight with you when you have a smile on your face? If someone appears angry and tries to hit you, just smile and apologize. Say, “I’m sorry. It’s my fault!” Even the biggest dispute can be resolved that way.
