As for each individual who takes the precepts, that individual will enjoy peace and happiness. The same applies to each family.

Lingyen Mountain Temple promotes the Pure Land Dharma method, as well as the cultivation of precepts, concentration and wisdom. All lay Bodhisattvas of the Ten Directions come together here to respectfully receive and uphold these practices.
This is a Bodhimanda of pure precepts, where the myriad virtues are adorned and the fruition of Buddhahood is realized. It is where all sentient beings of the present and future can together achieve liberation and Nirvana.

I hope that everyone will bring forth their own resolve for Bodhi. Receive and uphold the precepts. By upholding the precepts and reciting the Buddha’s name, it is for certain that we will be reborn in the Western Pure Land together. Otherwise, if we fall into the Three Lower Realms, and continue in the cycle of transmigration in the Six Paths, the suffering will be unspeakable. Since you have all been able to bring forth the wholesome intention to take the precepts, then there is nothing you cannot uphold. You will definitely be able to uphold the precepts. The Buddha would not instruct people to do something beyond their capabilities, so do not doubt yourself.

Now that you have taken the Bodhisattva Precepts, you should cultivate the Bodhisattva path well. Practicing the Bodhisattva path requires a sense of urgency, because our lives are short. In fact, life is like the sparks created by rubbing stones together, or flashes of electricity and light. If you do not take hold of your time, then once it passes by, it will be difficult or perhaps impossible to practice even if you wanted to. That is why we should seize our time, causes and conditions.

You are now precept disciples of the temple. As for the areas that you find the temple does well, you should maintain them and learn from them. As for areas that you find to be lacking, you should resolve to take on the work! This is your own home temple where you received the precepts, so you should cultivate the Bodhisattva Way by helping to make it flawless and complete. After you have taken the precepts, you also need to practice them. Practicing the precepts means to not do anything unwholesome, but it also means to practice all kinds of good deeds! The first step is to support and protect the Three Treasures. By doing so, you will be benefiting countless sentient beings.

Once you understand the reality of True Emptiness, you should approach it through conventional means of practice, by eliminating evil and cultivating the good. Once you perfect your cultivation of the Bodhisattva Way, you will attain Buddhahood. As a Buddha, you will have complete and perfect blessings and wisdom. How honorable, liberating and impartial is this process! Otherwise, you can only envy others who have attained Buddhahood. Do you believe in my words? If you do, put them into practice right away, and one day, you will eliminate all your suffering.

Buddhist teachings are methods to end the cycle of birth and death; they are the fundamental ways to relieve all suffering and difficulty. How do we end the cycle of birth and death? It is not enough to take the lay precepts. However, taking the lay precepts is the first step toward taking the monastic precepts. To realize Buddhahood, we cannot leave out this first step! Is there any Buddha in the Ten Directions who did not begin with the Five Precepts? However, we need to advance toward the monastic precepts, which will enable us to be truly liberated.
