Once you make that connection through practicing Buddhism and chanting the name of the Buddha and Guan Yin Bodhisattva, you will experience Dharma Joy—something to which the secular sensual pleasures cannot compare. Even just one moment of this bliss will make you realize how tainted these "pleasures" from the mundane world are. But would you want to experience such pleasures? The choice is yours!

To have a healthy body, in secular terms you should contribute medicine, treatment, tea, and healthy drinks. Buddhist teachings say that you should stop killing and be vegetarian—this removes negative causes from the root, naturally resulting in a healthy body and sharp mind.

Being vegetarian is compassionate and will lead to Buddhahood
How did the Buddha realize Buddhahood?
Through cultivating great compassion.
What is the greatest enemy to compassion?
Cruelty. While your mouth is chanting the Buddha's name, you still chew on the meat of sentient beings at the same time—how can you bear to swallow it? If you cannot even let go of this kind of desire for flavor, then you are still a complete layperson. Even after three great asankhyeya kalpas, you will still not be able to realize Buddhahood.

Being vegetarian long-term prevents major illnesses

The benefits of vegetarianism were promoted long ago by Shakyamuni Buddha more than 3,000 years ago. More recently, a medical doctor wrote a book called Why should we be Vegetarian which emphasizes the medical benefits of a vegetarian diet. Following a vegetarian diet in the long-term leads to fewer serious illnesses, and even if you do become ill, it will be more easily treated and you will recover sooner than others.
