The Five Buddhist Precepts prohibit: killing, stealing, sexual misconduct, false speech, and intoxication. They compare to the five worldly Confucian virtues – benevolence, integrity, propriety, trustworthiness and wisdom. Not killing demonstrates benevolence; not stealing demonstrates integrity; no sexual misconduct demonstrates propriety; no false speech demonstrates trustworthiness; no intoxication demonstrates wisdom.
