The resolve for Bodhi is at the root of the precepts. Begin by carefully upholding the fundamental precepts against killing, stealing, and sexual misconduct. By doing so, the branches and leaves—meaning all other negative karma—will be eliminated, and all other virtuous karma will be able to grow.
