Most people especially buy some meat or chicken to celebrate birthdays in the family; this creates negative karma. On birthdays, Buddhist disciples must recite sutras, chant the Buddha’s name, and be vegetarian. If you invite guests over to share a meal, you should serve vegetarian food. If you serve meat, you will inevitably kill many living beings. The massive karmic offenses will result in a shortened life.
