Water and Land Service is the meal offering service for the beings of ghost realm. Water and Land also refers to sentient beings in the water and of the land. Therefore those beings who lost their lives in the water and on the land should be liberated through this ritual. There were no airplanes in the old days, but there are now, so Water and Land Dharma Service should refer to all sentient beings in the air, on the ground and in the water.
