Upasaka and Upasika are Sanskrit words, which in Chinese refer to men and women who work closely with the Three Treasures. They take refuge in the Three Treasures, uphold the Five Precepts, serve the Three Treasures attentively, and safeguard the Buddhadharma. These practitioners strive for blessings and wisdom; they study the Buddhadharma to awaken their wisdom and guide others.
