The Five Precepts are the foundational roots of all Buddhas and groundwork for all Bodhisattvas. The precepts in the Pratimoksa for Bodhisattvas are excerpted from The Upasaka Precepts Sutra, which are exclusively for lay practitioners. They consist of six major precepts and twenty-eight minor precepts, forming a total of thirty-four. The Brahma Net Sutra has ten major precepts and forty-eight minor precepts, to which both monastic and lay practitioners must adhere. This is a major pathway, a blueprint to a pagoda, a palace, and a guide to Buddhahood.
