Lingyen Mountain Temple (Canada) Fourth Annual Offering to the Sangha Event

    • Date:
      Saturday, August 13th, 2022 09:00am – 10:30am
    • Descriptions:
      Recitation of the Ullambana Sutra
      Grand Offering Before the Buddhas
      Offering to the Sangha
      Musical Offerings to the Sangha

The Offering to the Sangha Ceremony originates from the Buddha’s time, when people would make offerings to the Buddha and the Sangha on the final day of their Summer Retreat (the 15th day of the 7th lunar month). It is a way for sentient beings of the Ten Directions to plant seeds in the field of blessings.

The Ullambana Sutra states that anyone who wishes to repay the kindness of their parents should prepare all kinds of food and drink and offer it to members of the Sangha on the final day of their Summer Retreat, in prayer that their present parents live a long life free of illness and suffering, and parents of their past seven lifetimes be free from suffering in the realm of hungry ghosts. They should also pray for their rebirth in the human and heavenly realms, where they will enjoy endless blessings and happiness.

As filial Buddhist disciples, we should always remember our parents from moment- to-moment, and make offerings to our parents, all the way to seven lifetimes past. Every year on this day, we should present the Ullambana Offering to the Buddhas and the Sangha, out of filiality to our present parents, and in memory of our parents from seven lifetimes past, to repay their loving care and kindness in raising and nurturing us. All Buddhist disciples should practice according to this Dharma.

Dedicate these merits toward the transcendence of our parents from seven lifetimes past. May our parents who are still with us always be free from all illness and affliction. May the pandemic soon settle down. May people’s minds be at ease, and the world be at peace.

Dharma Masters from the Greater Vancouver area are invited to attend in-person and receive the offerings of this event. All offerings collected will be distributed evenly to all Sangha members in attendance.

The temple will set up Longevity and Memorial plaques on behalf of all who contribute to the Offering to the Sangha Event, and announce their names during the Dedication of Merits declaration.

How to make an offering: Cash, credit card, cheque (please specify: Offering to the Sangha Event), or e-transfer.

Choose one of the methods below to set up your plaques:
      1. Download and fill out the form, and send us the filled form by email, text message(SMS), or fax, then call us at 604-271-0009
